History of Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts & Science College for Women


Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Devasthanam and Charities, founded in 1720 by the Arya Vysya Community, render service to the society. They have four schools, two each for girls and boys in Chennai. They have two hostels one for students from Std VII onwards, providing free food and accommodation and the other for two hundred students taking up professional courses.

This organization has also undertaken the feeding of 100 School Boys, poor and infirm, throughout the year. The Charities have also two Kalyana Mandapams, a cremation ground and ceremonial garden. The Management Committee of the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Devasthanam & Charities have founded the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts & Science College for Women to promote women's education in Chennai.

Initially the college functioned in the first floor of K.T.C.T. Girl's Higher Secondary School at No:5 Narayana Mudali Street, Chennai-79. The College is functioning in its own premises at No:1 Audiappa Street,Chennai-1 from the academic year 2000-2001. This area early known as Kotwal Chavadi is owned by the S.K.P.D. & Charities. The Management Committee has constructed the necessary Classrooms, library, laboratory and provided other infrastructure for the courses offered to the students.
